The past 20 years of my teaching career have taught me the importance and necessity of change in the pursuit of helping others realize their potential. Reflecting on a quote by Walt Disney who said, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths,” supports methodologies that prepare us for our future. Specialized opportunities for students that infuse technology, encourage critical thinking, foster creativity and provide time for collaboration increase skill sets needed for the future. I have been fortunate to have opportunities that engage students in projects that have empowered me as an educator. I was invited to participate in Community Discovered, which was a program that integrated technology with the arts and incorporated a constructivist teaching approach. Opportunities included training at the National Museum of American Art in Washington D.C. and the National Wildlife Museum in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Presenting at conferences and training staff in the area of technology have been interwoven into my current position. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in education at UNO and a Master’s degree in educational technology through Peru State. I have also taken many classes through the University of Iowa to continue learning about gifted education.
